The RedHalo system ensures that work created by a learner is securely backed up to a UK based remote or local server (optional) where it may be reviewed by an educator who may also use the same system to distribute content as well as new applications to each of the spaces under their control.

Thus a simple system of creating and handing in digital work for review and handing out new work materials is established. Beyond the device and networking capabilities there are no limitations on file sizes. Interfaces are being developed to allow interoperability with 3rd party e-assessment, e-portfolio and VLE systems. Because RedHalo uses open standards a learner can use virtually any device that has Internet capability to access their personal learning space from anywhere.

The RedHalo platform is robust and understands that some wireless networks are far from perfect.

If a connection is disrupted RedHalo will pick up from where it left off including any subsequent changes. Backing up can be tedious so RedHalo can be programmed to perform this function at certain times without tying up the resources of the device. Learners can then continue to use their device while RedHalo works in the background.*

* currently available to Windows Mobile, XP and Vista users.

Materials created and backed up using RedHalo can be viewed via a web interface over the Internet.

Allowing educators, parents, carers and learners to access, review and administer their portfolio remotely and at anytime. Educators can even view work being created on a learners device while they are working. This feature also allows RedHalo to be integrated with interactive whiteboards and other projection technology*

*to be released Q1 2008

For the learner RedHalo has the facility to mark certain files or folders as private so that they can divide schoolwork from their personal data on the device.

Further, there are no tricky passwords and logging in codes to remember because once a RedHalo account has been defined the device establishes a digital fingerprint for access. Should the device be lost or stolen the account can be immediately closed and reassigned to a different device.

Large rich media files may then be distributed at more convenient times.

Perhaps when the device is charging overnight or even while the device is being used in class.

The key to RedHalo is versatility and flexibility.

It It doesn't limit itself to working with just a selection of applications on a mobile device it works with virtually everything.
