Handheld Learning Conference - Learning While Mobile

The Redhalo Team will be pleased to see all visitors at this years Handheld Learning 2007 conference.

Now in its third year the Handheld Learning Conference and Exhibition has established itself as the signature event for those interested in opportunities presented by “always-on” learning. Drawing together a highly influential audience of opinion formers, policy makers and practitioners, the event is supported by Becta with endorsement from DCSF, e-Learning Foundation and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

Renowned for the quality of its speakers, stimulating conference sessions and engaging networking opportunities; additional space has been made available this year for more in-depth breakout sessions as well as sessions for those new to the field.

RedHaloUpdates

Over the summer months we have been busy adding more features to our RedHalo Learning Environment and have recently released them for the start of the new school term. You may have already seen some of them, but just in case you havent below is some information regarding the recent changes.

Additional File Types
Over 30 new file types are now recognised by RedHalo and each of these have an icon that is displayed next to the files on the web interface. This aids recognition of different files and helps you to locate your files more easily.

Grouped File Types
File types have also been placed into more convenient, and more useful, groups. For example .jpg, .bmp, .png, .gif etc all belong to the Image group. Current groups consist of Image, RedActivity, PhatPad, Inspiration, browser, text, Word, Video, Audio, Media, Excel, PDF, PowerPoint, Other. This list will be expanded as other file types are added.

File Filtering
When viewing a list of your users files or archived files, there is a new file type filter that allows you to look for specific file type groups, see above. You are also able to sort file into name order, date order or size order. So for example, if you wanted to find the latest PhatPad documents created all you need to do is selected the Order by Date filter, and the PhatPad filter.

Improved Performance When Displaying Files
The code has been optimised so that when displaying a list of files this will now occur significantly faster.

File Viewers
We have also added new viewers for Text Files, Browser files and RedActivity activities as well as updating the current Image viewer. The viewers are used when users or administrators click on an icon next to the filename. The viewer will then display the files contents without having to download the files first. Audio and Video viewers will follow shortly. The improved image viewer supports additional image file formats.

Comment on Files
Both Users and Administrators can now add comments to any files displayed on the web interface. As many comments as you like can be added to any file, this allows a dialogue to be conducted between users.

Archive File
Allows users or administrators to move any file(s) from the active file list to the archived file list.

Restore Archived File
Places any file(s) in the archived list into the active file list. The next time the user synchronies their device, this file be downloaded and thus restoring file(s).

Other Mobile Devices
It is now possible to access your online RedHalo account with other mobile devices that have web browser capabilities. Some devices used so far include Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, Nokia N800/770, Nintendo DS.
