Training is provided by Handheld Learning who run regular training days for educators embarking on or considering the use of handheld devices in their teaching practice:
How long is it?
This is a 1 day introductory course, starting with a presentation over coffee at 9:30am and finishing at 4:00pm. We’ll also provide a nice lunch to keep you energised!
Who is it for?
Educators with little or no experience working with handheld devices in the classroom or learning environment.
Where will it take place?
In our training suite overlooking Victoria dock in London’s docklands, a few minutes walk from the DLR. We can also provide on-site courses, subject to minimum delegate numbers and booking fee.
What equipment will we use?
Depending upon the course you will be working with a standard Pocket PC or UMPC, (don’t worry if your establishment uses different technology, the activities have been carefully structured so that the experiences can be transferred to other models and types of handheld)..

What will I learn?
We will start from the very beginning with tips and advice on the device itself and how to control, use and maintain it in the context of a busy learning environment.
We will introduce you to a suite of handheld software tools with examples of how these might help to support a range of learning activities.
Setting up, monitoring and managing lots of devices can be a challenge and we will show you how you can use RedHalo to keep everything running smoothly.
Once you are confident with the basics we will work on some practical activities that have been designed to provide starting points for handheld tasks that you can modify and use with learners.
We will finish with a discussion about the potential of handheld devices to support and enhance teaching and learning.
